The White Ribbon Campaign was created in 1991 by a group of Toronto men as a way for men to raise awareness of violence against women. According to the White Ribbon pledge, it is the responsibility of all men to step up, speak out and take action against violence. It has grown to be a worldwide campaign.
Team coaches and Megan King, Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan’s Violence Prevention Coordinator, discuss with athletes ways to use their visible role to help make positive social change by initiating respect. The teams take the White Ribbon pledge and are encouraged to not be defined by the strength of their arms and legs, but rather by the strength of their character.
White Ribbon pledge:
I pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and girls.
