The WRCNM was founded by individuals willing to give of their time and skills to make our community a better place. Through the support of volunteers, the WRCNM is able to provide life-changing services to thousands of Northern Michigan residents each year.
The volunteer job benefits are great! You’ll meet other interesting people from all walks of life, learn new skills and feel good about sharing your time and talents.
Your help is always welcome! Give an hour a month, 20 hours a week or anything in between. Workdays and times are flexible for all positions.
- Advocate – Safe Home
Volunteers assist in staffing the Safe Home, which houses survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. Duties include: handling crisis/information calls, taking phone messages, placing outgoing calls and answering the door, as well as interacting regularly with Safe Home residents. - Children’s Program Assistant – Safe Home
Volunteers assist Safe Home staff in creative activities for children staying at the Safe Home. These volunteers also supervise in-resident and not-in-resident children during Domestic Abuse Support Group meetings. - Safe Home Coordinator Assistant – Safe Home
Volunteers assist with various housekeeping tasks at the Safe Home while also maintaining security and safety procedures. - Sales Clerk – Gold Mine Resale Shops
Volunteers assist with retail sales work, operate cash register and interact with store customers. The Gold Mine is open Monday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Serve on the Commnunity Violence Prevention Team
The Violence Prevention Team is dedicated to partnering with the Women’s Resource Center for the mission of primary prevention of sexual violence and intimate partner violence in our community. The team assists in an advisory capacity to assuring widespread adoption of proven prevention programs and with the prevention awareness in our community. The team meets 6 times a year. These volunteers assist with maintenance/repair projects at our Gold Mine stores or the Safe Home. - Specialty Positions - Safe Home
Do you have a special skill or area of expertise you are willing to share, for example, hairstyling or manicures? We’re interested in discussing these opportunities for our Safe Home residents.
