| The WRC provides educational programs that are geared to various age groups and focus on sensitive issues that surround teen dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, healthy decision making and healthy dating relationships. The following are descriptions of the educational programs offered through the Women's Resource Center.
JUST THE FACTS
Just the Facts is a five hour program available to area high schools. The goal of this program is to provide facts and insight regarding issues many teens face. This program provides teens with valuable life information on gender role stereotypes, sexual harassment, sexual assault prevention, dating violence/abuse, communication, sexuality, limit setting, healthy relationships and Michigan law. It is hoped that by providing students with this information they will be more aware and prepared with a foundation for positive future relationships and make educated healthy lifestyle choices.
MERIT
MERIT (Motivation, Esteem and Respect In Teens) is a life-skills program offered to 8th grade girls within the WRC's five county service area. It is recognized that the time of adolescence is one of great change. The MERIT program is designed to assist girls in their transition into young adulthood. The program goal is to encourage a positive sense of self through teaching practical life skills. This school program includes activities and discussions focusing on topics such as self-esteem, communication, values, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexuality education, relationships, decision making and goals.
SEXUAL ASSAULT/DOMESTIC ABUSE/INTIMATE PARTNER ABUSE
The WRC offers one hour presentations to middle and high school students. Many students experience the emotional and physical trauma of dating violence every day. These presentations examine the dynamics of abusive relationships, including emotional, physical, verbal, sexual, isolation and intimidation. The program talks about males and females respecting each other, how to recognize unhealthy relationships and where to get help or find more information.
