Children’s Learning Center
The Children’s Learning Center (CLC) program provides an early childhood classroom learning environment in addition to a balanced child care service. The program emphasizes developmentally-appropriate learning experiences for preschool children ages 2½ to 5. For enrolled preschool families with older school-age children (ages 5 to 10), the CLC also provides the option of before/after school and summer programming. A Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) that provides high quality early childhood experiences to build a foundation for lifelong learning. Staff are certified and/or trained in the field of early childhood; they are committed to providing children with a successful preschool experience to help them learn and grow. Class costs are free; participants must meet eligibility requirements. For more information, call (800) 443-5518.
Free playgroups for parents and their children age birth to 60 months and preschool age siblings are offered in various communities in Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet counties. Families take part in fun activities such as free play, crafts, music and story time. There is also time for informal support between parents. The group facilitator assists with accessing resources and networking within the community, as well as providing information about child development, communication and parenting skills. Beginning September 15, 2021, Playgroups will meet 10:30am to 12 noon on Wednesdays at the Charlevoix library, on Thursdays at Boyne District library, and on Fridays at First Congregational Church in Central Lake.
