Antrim County’s LaGrandeur earns recognition

Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) presented the Excellence in Service Award to Deputy Brian LaGrandeur of the Antrim County Sheriff Office for his work in promoting domestic violence victim safety and offender accountability. Deputy Brian LaGrandeur of the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office earned an Excellence in Service Award for his work responding to and investigating domestic abuse cases. Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) recognizes law enforcement officers with the annual award in the five counties they serve as part of October’s Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. 


LaGrandeur said he is honored to receive this award. “I strive to serve the citizens of Antrim County, as well as others outside the county, with courtesy, pride and professionalism. I have always respected the Women’s Resource Center and their role in domestic violence prevention, education and support services. I look forward to continuing to serve and the cooperative effort between the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office and Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan.”

Antrim County Sheriff, Dan Bean said that Deputy LaGrandeur has been proactive in the battle against domestic violence. “He has shown through his thorough investigations and his concern for children and the victims of these types of crimes that these assaults not only affect the adult, but the children that witness these types of incidences,” said Bean.

WRCNM Counselor/Advocate, Jamie Weaver said that Deputy LaGrandeur has been an asset to the community for years. “He is professional with survivors of domestic abuse. Deputy LaGrandeur has been very open to working with our organization to ensure survivors and children have the necessary resources for healing,” said Weaver. “He is deserving of this award because of the years of excellent service he has given to this community.”

WRCNM counselor/advocates select Excellence in Service award recipients from Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties that have demonstrated a strong knowledge and understanding of responding to, investigating and supporting survivors of domestic violence. Other honorees for the 2018 Excellence in service award are: Sgt. Rich Bankey, Emmet County Sheriff’s Office; Officer Christie Hoenicke, Boyne City Police Department; Deputy Jon Supernault, Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office; and Deputy Joseph Tath, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office.
