The 2020 Hestia Women’s Giving Circle $12,000 grant supports educational scholarships for students in Emmet and Charlevoix counties enrolled in the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan’s (WRCNM) Educational and Employment Services program. To date, the grant has funded ten students, seven of whom will graduate from North Central Michigan College this year. The scholarship helps students with tuition, textbooks, childcare and supplies.
A scholarship recipient, referred to the program through the WRCNM’s Transitional Supportive Housing Program for domestic abuse survivors, completed her CDL/Truck Driving Training and the required certification to help her find employment to better support herself and her family. Other scholarship recipients graduated this year in the areas of Emergency Medical Services, Graphic Arts, Nursing and Business Management.
An EES program participant said, “I want you to know how much I greatly appreciate the scholarship you awarded me this semester. I am taking my last class to complete my Associates Degree in General Studies and the WRCNM helped me so much on this journey. I will be forever grateful.”
The EES program also provides academic and career advising, job search assistance, resume development, help with interview/work clothing and referrals/advocacy.
Scholarships are available for both spring and summer semesters. For details, call EES Coordinator, Stacey Burns at (231) 348-6699 or visit wrcnm.org.
