Hestia grant supports educational scholarships
Stacey Burns (center), educational and employment services coordinator with the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan accepts a $10,000 grant from the Hestia Women’s Giving Circle.
The Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) received a $10,000 grant from the Hestia Women’s Giving Circle, a donor advised fund of the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. The grant is for educational scholarships provided by the WRCNM’s Educational and Employment Services.
Last year, the Educational and Employment Services program provided guidance to 317 individuals seeking to redirect their lives to become more self-sufficient. During the same timeframe, the program provided $55,000 in scholarships to program participants striving to continue their education.
The Hestia Women’s Giving Circle supports organizations in Charlevoix and Emmet counties that provide services for women and girls. Part of their mission statement is to ‘remove barriers to opportunity’ and create ‘bridges toward self-sufficiency’. Hestia members determine the local organizations to support through an application and review process.
Over the past eight years, Hestia has donated $270,325 in total grants to organizations in Charlevoix and Emmet counties, $76,723 of which has been donated to the WRCNM.
