Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) was one of several local nonprofit organizations to receive grant funding from The Hestia Women’s Giving Circle. WRCNM Development Director, Kari VandenBrink (right) accepted the $15,000 donation during Hestia’s June meeting.
Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan received a $15,000 grant from The Hestia Women’s Giving Circle, a donor-advised fund of the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. The grant is for educational scholarships provided by the nonprofit’s Educational and Employment Services.
Educational and Employment Services provides guidance to an average of 181 individuals annually who seek to redirect their lives, enter/re-enter the workforce or gain additional education/training. Last year, the program facilitated a total of $96,381 in scholarships to program participants striving to continue their education.
One program participant said scholarship dollars she received through Educational and Employment Services helped lift her financial burden, as well as her spirits. She said, “As a single mother working full-time it can be overwhelming. Thanks to this scholarship, I will have more time to focus on my schooling. Thank you for investing in students like me and I look forward to serving the community in the future as a registered nurse.”
The Hestia Women’s Giving Circle supports organizations in Charlevoix and Emmet counties that provide services for women and girls. Part of their mission statement is to remove barriers to opportunity and create bridges toward self-sufficiency. Hestia members determine the local organizations to support through an application and review process.
