Kiwanis Club of Boyne City recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Eddie Essay Contest. The annual contest invites fifth grade students from three area schools to select and write about a local non-profit organization and why they think that charity deserves a donation.

Shyla Green of Boyne City School received an honorable mention for her essay about the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM). The essay earned the WRCNM a $100 donation from the Kiwanis Club of Boyne City.

Shyla’s essay notes the WRCNM was established in 1977 and provides services in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties. Shyla writes why she chose the WRCNM for her essay, “They help with domestic violence, children’s educational programming, education and career and employment. Women that go there can enjoy getting help with a variety of concerns, meet other women with the same experiences and learn more about themselves and others.”

The donation will help support Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan programs and services relied on by thousands of individuals in northern Michigan annually.
