Ask Us Anything

My spouse is an emotional abuser. I think I would benefit from support with others who have been through the same. Do you offer or can you recommend support groups that would be extremely confidential?

Domestic/dating abuse is a pattern of behaviors used to gain or maintain power and control over a partner. People may think domestic abuse means physical abuse, but there are many other types of abuse such as emotional/verbal, sexual, financial, misusing technology, social isolation, intimidation, minimizing/blaming and stalking.

No matter the type of abuse, it can cause physical and emotional pain and trauma.

Individual advocacy, counseling and support groups are helpful in recognizing and understanding patterns of behavior related to abuse. WRCNM support services and support groups are confidential and provided at no cost to those experiencing abuse. Here are a few quotes from those who have reached out for Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) domestic/dating abuse services:

“It’s been helpful being with other survivors and sharing our stories. You realize that abuse has patterns and although we can read it on paper, it helps to share with those who have experienced it.”

“I thank you for being here for women to talk to. I feel blessed to have such a wonderful, supportive place where I can learn and discuss everything. Safe, safe, safe place.”

“My experience here has been so extremely helpful; I couldn’t be more thankful. Coming here is the most beneficial thing I could have done for my current state of mind as well as my future planning.”

“The knowledge of my WRCNM Counselor has helped tremendously. It’s nice to talk about my situation with someone who actually understands.”

“My WRCNM Counselor was very helpful through a difficult time and helped me find the recourse to get back on my feet. Support group is great, as well.”
