Oleson’s Dollar Drive Supports Safe Home

Oleson’s Food Store in Petoskey is partnering with the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRC) to assist the Safe Home in providing food, supplies and personal care items to survivors of domestic abuse and their children staying at the emergency shelter.  Oleson’s is giving shoppers the opportunity to donate a dollar as they check out their purchases, which will go directly toward needs at the Safe Home. The Dollar Drive begins Sunday, November 13, and runs through Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24.

During the Dollar Drive, Lite 96.3fm and on-air personality Tim Nixon will hold a two hour live radio broadcast to help generate donations of non-perishable foods, household supplies and personal care items.  The on-air drive for food and supplies will take place 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, at Oleson’s Food Store, 2000 US-31 North in Petoskey.

The WRC relies on community support to continue providing safety and supportive services to survivors of domestic abuse in Northern Michigan. The Safe Home provides emergency shelter 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the past year alone, 135 women and children took refuge at the Safe Home with over 9,000 meals being provided.   All WRC domestic abuse services are provided to survivors and their children at no charge.
