The Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan is seeking nominations for the second annual Tribute awards to honor extraordinary women committed to strengthening the community and improving the lives of those who live here. Community members are encouraged to nominate those making a difference through their efforts and contributions in five categories, including one for youth and one for men; nominations are due by 5 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2015.

A selection committee made up of community members will determine the honoree in each category:
• Advocacy – woman whose bold advocacy for a population or cause has resulted in increased community awareness and action on issues of social concern.

• Business/Profession – woman who has exhibited superior ability and accomplishment in a company, business, organization or association.

• Community Service – woman who has shown outstanding achievement as a volunteer, contributing to the betterment of the neighborhood and/or community.

• Pinnacle – woman who has dedicated a lifetime of service, providing meaningful contributions that have influenced and made a difference in her community.

• Youth – woman, 21 or younger, who has demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments to the betterment of herself, school and community.

• Man-Up – This award recognizes a man in the community whose service and actions have demonstrated his commitment toward the well-being of women; it is sponsored by the 100 Men Campaign.

Last year, Lisa Clavier was honored with the Advocacy award for her work in helping reduce teen suicide risk through education and awareness initiatives. In the Business/Profession category, Gail Gruenwald was recognized for her years of leadership as executive director of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council and her efforts to protect our natural resources. The 2014 Community Service award went to Babs Kutcipal for more than 40 years of service and leadership on several non-profit boards including the Petoskey School Board. Mark Fralick received the Man-Up award for his contributions as a teacher, coach, principal, volunteer and advocate for ending violence against women and girls. The Pinnacle award honored Nancy Stewart for more than 50 years of service to the community helping women and children, victims of natural disasters, friends and strangers, alike. The Harbor Springs Soccer U15 team was honored in the Youth category for their leadership, kindness and respect on and off the field and commitment to their community.
