Women Can/Women Do Charlevoix County fundraising luncheon is made possible with the help of volunteer table designers, table captains and committee members. The event raises important dollars to support Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan services and will be held at Castle Farms on Wednesday, June 14. Volunteers pictured at a planning meeting are (front L-R) Susan Flanders, Gail DeMeyere, Suzanne Rogers, Kay Wasilewski, Sarah Hagen, Peggy Kusina, (back L-R) Christine Benson, Judy Pratt, Cheri Leach, Kathy Ackerman, Larissa Flynn, Edith Pair, Amber Munday, Kathleen Schmidtke and Perry Irish Hodgson.

For 40 years, Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM) has relied on support from volunteers and a generous community to make sure the myriad of unique and needed programs and services they offer continue. One example is the way local businesses and individuals support the Women Can/Women Do-Charlevoix County fundraising luncheon which will be held at Castle Farms in Charlevoix from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 14.

“Volunteers are vital to the story and success of this organization,” said Gail Kloss, WRCNM executive director. “This 11th annual Women Can/Women Do fundraiser would not be possible without the help of these valued volunteers.” Kloss explained that in 1977, a group of local volunteers began WRCNM to fulfill a vision they had for an organization that would offer support to women facing life challenges, transitions and crisis. Four decades later, WRCNM continues to provide essential services such as domestic abuse, sexual assault, child abuse and child sexual assault to those in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet and Otsego counties. WRCNM also provides counseling services, educational and employment services, childcare, preschool and playgroups.

Table captains fill seats at a table by inviting friends, family and community members while table designers create a feast for the eyes at the luncheon. To date, designers include: A Touch of Spring and Other Things, Beaver Island Boat Company, Belvedere Golf Club Buddies, Castle Farms of Charlevoix, Charlevoix Area Garden Club, Charlevoix Cinema III, Charlevoix Circle of Arts, Christ Episcopal Church Women’s Group, Deer Creek Junk, Elements, Harwood Gold Cafe, Hearts to Holly Quilt Shop, Kilwin’s of Charlevoix, L.
