Ward and Eis Gallery in downtown Petoskey continues a tradition of giving back to the community by donating 20% of purchases on Saturday, December 12 and 19, to Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM). The benefit is known as “Gifts Twice Given” because part of the proceeds of gifts purchased on these two Saturdays also supports life-saving and life-changing services for adult and child survivors of abuse and assault.
WRCNM Executive Director, Gail Kloss said a culture of compassion and community giving has been nurtured over the past 36 years by the gallery’s owner, Jennifer Eis.
“The longevity and consistency of support from Ward and Eis Gallery are inspiring, but more importantly, it has impacted thousands of community members in a positive way. Jennifer and her staff are truly making a difference in northern Michigan and their ongoing support is creating a stronger, more resilient community in the process,” Kloss said.
Last year, alone, WRCNM supported 692 callers who reached out to the 24-hour help and information line. The agency’s Safe Home domestic abuse shelter provided 2,099 nights of secure, caring and compassionate refuge to survivors of domestic abuse and their family members. Counseling, advocacy (medical, legal, financial and housing) and therapy services were provided to 779 survivors of domestic abuse, sexual assault and child sexual assault/abuse. The agency also offers employment and educational services, children’s educational services, and a violence prevention program.
Ward and Eis Gallery provides charitable support to several area non-profits by donating 2% of all annual sales, 100% of the proceeds from the book Magpie Papers co-authored by Jennifer Eis and Don Ward, and 20% of sales from a Thanksgiving sales benefit. To date, the gallery has donated a total of $484,000 back to the community.
“Their level of community commitment and philanthropy is simply remarkable,” Kloss said.
